Prof. Dr. Thorsten Roelcke is a Professor at the Institute of German Language and Communication at the Faculty of Humanities and Educational Sciences of the Technical University of Berlin (Germany), Head of the Department of German as a Foreign and Specialized Languages, Academic Director of the Central Institute of Modern Languages (ZEMS), Head of the Language and Culture Exchange, member of the German Terminologists’ Association, member of the Professional Association of German as a Foreign and Second Language (FaDaF), member of the Advisory Board of the Collaboration Platform of the Berlin University Alliance, member of the Scientific Board of Berlin University Publishing, and Honorary Professor of the National University of Uzbekistan named after M. Ulugbek (Tashkent, Uzbekistan).

Currently, Professor Torsten Roelcke leads a number of research projects funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research: “German-Ukrainian Online Portal of Specialized Dictionaries,” “Multidimensional Analysis of Academic Written Language Competence of Foreign Students,” “Dissertation Corpus of Research on German Specialized Languages,” “Assessment and Comparative Study of a Specialized Language Test in the Context of Professional Medical Licensing,” “Specialized German Communication within the DAAD Module Dhoch3,” “Specialized Processing of Environmental Documentation,” “Languages – Education – Opportunities: Innovations for Berlin Teachers,” “Terminologization and Compilation of Terminological Dictionaries,” and “Language Reflection in the Age of Baroque and Enlightenment.” Since 2016, he has been actively supporting Ukraine through a series of joint projects on the compilation of German-Ukrainian specialized terminological dictionaries (to date, six dictionaries have been compiled, with two more in preparation for publication, co-authored with Yu. P. Boiko).

Torsten Roelcke is the author of more than 250 scholarly publications, including 14 single-authored monographs and textbooks on specialized languages and German as a foreign language, as well as 23 co-authored monographs. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of three academic journals indexed in the Scopus database —

Thanks to Professor Roelcke’s initiative, a number of important joint projects have been realized, including the project for the creation of German-Ukrainian specialized terminological dictionaries, which began in 2016. To date, six dictionaries have been compiled, with two more in preparation in collaboration with Ukrainian scholars.

His support has greatly contributed to the development of specialized German-language communication and academic cooperation between Ukrainian and German institutions of higher education. This intercultural academic collaboration has been made possible through his personal commitment, scholarly engagement, and deep understanding of the importance of linguistic and professional exchange.

Thanks to Professor Roelcke, the university can engage with contemporary Western European scholarly research, participate in international projects, and develop the potential of academic staff and students in the fields of linguistics, terminology, and specialized communication.
