Mykhailo Chekman

Mykhailo Kostiantynovych Chekman (August 16, 1946, Chankiv village, Dunayevetsky district, Khmelnytskyi region, Ukrainian SSR - July 21, 2002) — Khmelnytskyi mayor (1990–2002); honored worker of the social sphere of Ukraine.

Biography

Mykhailo Kostiantynovych Chekman was born on August 16, 1946 in the village of Chankiv, Dunayevetsky district, Khmelnytskyi region. His father, Kostiantyn Semenovych — a participant in the German-Soviet war, was a tractor driver, his mother, Hanna Mykhailivna, worked in a consumer cooperative.

In 1964-1967, he studied at the Kamianets-Podilskyi Industrial Technical School.

From 1967 to 1969, he was the head of the electrical workshop, the chief energy engineer of the Tokmak Granite Quarry, Zaporizhzhia Region.

In the period from 1969 to 1981, M. K. Chekman was a locksmith, senior technician, engineer, senior engineer, deputy head of shop No. 5 of the Kation plant (Khmelnytskyi).

in 1973 he graduated from the Lviv Polytechnic Institute in absentia.

From 1981 to 1985, Mykhailo Kostiantynovych Chekman was the deputy chairman of the Khmelnytskyi City Executive Committee.

In 1985-1990, he was the chairman of the Khmelnytskyi City Committee of People's Control.

In 1990, Mykhailo Kostiantynovych Chekman was elected chairman of the Khmelnytskyi City Council of People's Deputies. Since 1998, he has been the mayor of Khmelnytskyi.

On July 21, 2002, M. K. Chekman tragically died in a car accident.
